2012-13 Heroes and Prospects is a trading card product, with the primary focus on CHL teams.  Several young NHL superstars were featured in this product before their NHL Rookie Cards.  Such players include Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathon Drouin and Connor McDavid.

The card at the focus of the controversy is the Game Used Memorabilia Patch GOLD version of Justin Bailey, of the Kitchener Rangers in the the OHL.  According to the official online checklist provided by ITG, there should be only been 5 copies of this card.  6 copies of this card have been acquired by a collector!

There has been NO official explanation from ITG why the 6th copy exists, or how it was released, or how widespread the issue is. (update)
